For those who can not avail the permit for staying inside the Corbett national park or do not want to compromise the luxuries of life can still visit Dhikala zone by canter / Open bus. Canter is a 18 seater open bus run / operated by forest department. The safari starts & ends from Ramnagar to Ramnagar in the morning & afternoon respectively. There are two boarding points for canter, Ramnagar and Dhangarhi gate.

The safari timings for Canter safari in Dhikala zone may vary depending upon sunrise / Sunset and it is advisable to check the exact timings before moving to Corbett national park.

Only those who have permit to stay overnight at Dhikala forest rest house are allowed to go for Jeep Safari in the Dhikala Zone of Corbett National Park. Jeep Safari in the Dhikala Zone is one of the most interesting game drives as one has the opportunity to cover the Grassland of Dhikala, Chuhapani Road & Kamarpatta Road passing through the dense Sal forest, Ramsingh Road & Champion Road having tall elephant grasses on both the sides. Another charm for jeep safari at Dhikala Zone of Corbett National Park is the Ramganga River which flows through the entire Zone where one gets to enjoy the water bodies like Crocodiles, Gharial, Otters, variety of Storks and fishes. Ramganga river is also has a good population of Golden and Black Mahaseer, which are also known as shark of fresh water. Dhikala Zone is also famous amongst wild lifers as Grassland of Dhikala have a good population of hog deers, which are only found in the Grassland. Overall for wildlife enthusiast Dhikala Zone is the model of complete eco system habitating animals from top to the bottom of food chain.


Elephant safari is the most natural way of visiting any forest and Dhikala provides perfect setting for a ride on the back of an elephant. Located on the edge of grasslands and Ramganga reservoir one can spot good wildlife near forest rest house and sitting on the back on this nature’s giant gives an opportunity to move at areas where jeeps cannot move. There are 5 elephants in Dhikala rest house for elephant safari and each elephant safari is for 2 hours. The elephant safari provides chances to view wildlife from close quarters without disturbing the natural settings. The elephant safari timings vary from season to season depending upon sunrise and sunset. Elephant safari at Dhikala forest lodge is not booked in advance and can be booked on arrival at the lodge. Four members are allowed to sit on an elephant at one time along with the mahoots who have fair knowledge of the wildlife present in the area.

Dhikala Entry Timing
For those having permits for staying inside the Dhikala zone, one can enter Dhikala via Dhangari Gate and the entry timing to Dhikala from Dhangari Gate is 0700 Hrs till 1600 Hrs in winters & 0600 Hrs till 1700 in Summers. The permit to enter the dhikala zone needs to be availed in advance and the permits are reserved at Corbett Booking office located at Ramnagar.
How to Book Dhikala Lodge
The Booking of Dhikala forest lodge or other lodges are done from Corbett booking office located at Ramnagar. One can send the fax to the forest department or it is recommended to book the lodges with experienced tour operators who can provide the complete solution including permits, vehicle and other necessary arrangements.
How to Reach Dhikala
In order to reach Dhikala forest lodge one has to reach Dhangari gate via Ramnagar. At Dhangarhi gate the permits are checked are one is allowed to enter the Dhikala zone. Dhikala guest house is located at a distance of 32 kms from Dhangari Gate.

By Air: The nearest airport is Pantnagar located at a distance of 50 Km from Corbett National Park. The nearest international airport is Delhi at a distance of 300 km.

By Rail: Ramnagar is the nearest railway station from where the road transport options have to be availed to reach the Corbett National Park.

By Road: Dhikala is 300 km from Delhi, 410 km from Lucknow and 51 km from Ramnagar. The route from Delhi spans Hapur-Moradabad-Ramnagar. The turn off is some 7 km beyond Moradabad to the left, marked by a small board. The route from Lucknow spans Bareilly. Kichha -Rudrapur-Doraha- Kashipur.
